Scrapbooking Storage

Scrapbooking is a craft that lets you combine the creative side of your personality with a need to store photos or other memorabilia as memories for you to look at in the future. Many people take on scrapbooking as a hobby and find that it is so enjoyable and fulfilling that it can balloon into a full fledged passion. There is no harm in that because as hobbys go, scrapbooking results in something beautiful and functional. And making a scrapbook for someone can become a wonderful wedding, birthday or anniversary gift that you put some of your heart and talent into as well.

Like any craft, scrapbooking can take over a room or even the house. There are a lot of materials you need for scrapbooking and the more creative you become with the scrapbooks you make the more "stuff" you have to keep around the house. So the problem of storage can start to be a challenge. When you are in the middle of a project, you might have all kinds of supplies laying all over the place to use to make your next great scrapbook masterpiece. So how do you store that stuff away from day to day or for the long term when you are between scrapbooking projects?

If you can devote a closet or some shelf space in the home to your hobby, that is a good start. If you have a hobby room where you can build shelves along one wall for all of your supplies, that is a good option. Your spouse and family may be happy to help you create this kind of environment that can be set aside for scrapbooking because they support your passion for making scrapbooks and because it contains the hobby to one room.

To create an organization system for your supplies, a trip to a container store can give you lots of options. Sturdy plastic boxes are sold in every size and shape to fit your needs. You can get very small boxes with tiny containers to hold your small decorative items or you can get big tubs for the larger supplies such as the blank books and pages and larger lots of felt and other materials that you will take from as you make each new scrapbooking creation.

When you are ready to create your scrapbooking area for storage, think about how you will organize your supplies and perhaps even lay them all out on the floor in an organization system. That will help you decide which kinds of storage boxes to buy. You can also use this planning time to determine how you will organize those boxes on the shelf.

You should also think about how to store supplies you will take with you on outings to scrapbooking club meetings or to work with a friend on some projects. The "go items" might need to live in a separate bin or carry bag so you can pick up your travel supplies and quickly get out the door. By organizing your materials well so you know where everything is and using see through bins and labeling, you can create a storage system for your scrapbooking hobby that will help you get rid of the clutter problem and make your passion for scrapbooking even more fun because much of the fuss of managing your supplies will be taken care of by an efficient storage plan.
